Daily Mirror assistant editor Darren Lewis has urged West Ham United to sign Arnaut Danjuma and insists he would ‘improve’ the team.

Journalist Toni Juanmarti recently revealed that the Irons were interested in a move for the Villarreal ace this summer and claim that West Ham are working on a £31m (€36m) ‘plus variables’ offer for the Dutchman and the report also claimed that manager David Moyes would have the last say when it comes to sanctioning a move.

Formerly of Bournemouth, Danjuma has seemingly caught the eye of Rob Newman and his recruitment team with 16 goals in 34 appearances including six in a memorable Champions League campaign that saw the Yellow Submarine reach the semi-finals last season.

When speaking on the TalkSPORT GameDay podcast about his potential arrival at the London Stadium, Lewis said that out of the Netherlands international and Jesse Lingard, the former is most likely to sign before singing the praises of the duo.

“I think they should sign Arnaut Danjuma. He knows where the goal is, he’s found his stride at Villarreal. He is a very classy player. I think the pair of those two players would improve West Ham big time.”

Kevin Phillips has described the £45m-rated attacker as a “nightmare for defenders” and he has shown he can perform at the highest level this term contributing to seven goals in just over 900 minutes at Europe’s top table.

His £25k-per-week contract doesn’t expire until 2026 having only moved to Unai Emery’s team last summer for £21.3m which could inflate the asking price but as his stock continues to rise.
