Insider ExWHUemployee has provided an update on West Ham United transfer target Nayef Aguerd after he pulled out of an international match recently.

The centre-back recently pulled out of the Morocco squad ahead of an international game due to injury and was subsequently replaced by Achraf Dari.

No doubt, such news would have alerted many West Ham fans, who may have wondered if the injury could have an impact on their club’s potential transfer deal.

While writing on The West Ham Way Patreon page, Ex explained that a source had told him the player pulled out of the team to make sure he didn’t pick up a serious injury ahead of a transfer. While it remained unclear if this was entirely accurate, the news did at least suggest the deal is still ‘very much on the cards to happen’.

The club insider said: “We can confirm that our centre-back target Nayef Aguerd has withdrawn from the Moroccan National Team for their fixture with Liberia tomorrow.

“I text[ed] my main source (but not the usual two sources rule) on transfers with the question, “Social media is in meltdown because Aguerd has pulled out of the Moroccan national team game tomorrow, can we assume this is to avoid injury so he can complete his move to us?”

“For which I got the answer back, “Hopefully”. Now, this obviously isn’t very conclusive, but what it does show is that the deal was very much on the cards to happen after the international games as we have continually tried to tell people.

Do West Ham need a new centre-back signing this summer?

“It does appear that his withdrawal from the national team is not something that the club have instructed, but could be a move that the agent has advised.

“Medicals were due to take place this coming week following the period of international games and this will obviously still be the case to check that the player is fit to confirm his move to the club. Once these medicals are completed, it is expected Aguerd will complete his move, the only thing that could stop it now appears to be the medical, but this has affected deals in the past such as Benrahma. We will continue to update you as we hear things.”

TIF Thoughts on Nayef Aguerd and West Ham…

Not that long ago, it looked as if this deal would be completed without any issues, but it has started to drag into a mini-saga. Indeed, Ex even expressed fears recently that club co-owner David Sullivan could interfere at the last moment to scupper the move with some fresh demands.

However, fans will take solace in the fact that it looks as though the only thing between the player and his move to West Ham is a medical. And with Aguerd pulling out of Morocco duty, it looks as though the defender is certainly prioritising his health to make sure the deal gets across the line.

West Ham United fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with Felipe Anderson

Taking everything into account, it looks as though this first episode in the transfer market should eventually end well for both player and club. Indeed, it seems all the Moroccan has to do is to pass his medical and he will be a Hammer.
