Presenter ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham United are delaying the signing Nayef Aguerd in case he gets injured.

Over the past few weeks, it has become apparent that the Hammers are pretty close to signing the centre-back with the deal fully expected to go through in the near future. However, as of yet, no official transfer announcement has been made.

“We have been told that the Moroccan Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd is very close to signing,” Ex said just last week.

The Moroccan international will likely be part of his county’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches in June and this could explain why he hasn’t finalised his deal with West Ham yet.

While discussing the transfer on The West Ham Way Patreon page, Ex claimed that the club could be ‘holding off any announcement’ until after the fixtures in case he picks up an injury.

He said: “Nayef Aguerd, the Moroccan defender at Rennes, is someone we have been covering for almost a month now. We believe the defender has been in the country, had photos with the kit, seen the training ground and also looked at places to live.

“The final touches to his transfer fee with clauses are being worked on but we believe the deal should go through for around £25m.

“We also think the club could be holding off any announcement until his international fixtures are completed in case of injury!”

TIF thoughts on Nayef Aguerd and West Ham…

It is interesting to hear that all parties still need to work out a few final details. Even so, it sounds as if – baring a major injury – Aguerd should be a West Ham player in the near future.

It looks as though the Hammers will be picking up a pretty good player too. Indeed, according to WhoScored, he has only committed two errors leading to an opposition shot on goal across his 90 Ligue 1 appearances for both Dijon and Rennes.

West Ham United fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with Felipe Anderson

Taking that into account, it’s fair to say most fans, as well as David Moyes and co, will be keen for this deal to get across the line without any last-gasp hiccups. Supporters may well be keeping an eye on Morroco’s next few games, hoping he can come through unscathed.
