Speaking on The Transfer Show, ExWHUemployee discussed the possibility of West Ham United signing midfielder John McGinn.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Aston Villa were willing to listen to offers for the Scotsman, with manager Steven Gerrard not thought to be entirely convinced by the 27-year-old despite the fact he has been a mainstay in the side during his four-year tenure at Villa Park.

The source also stated that McGinn isn’t the easiest of players to manage and is said to be ‘whinging’ away from the cameras.

However, one man’s trash could be another man’s treasure as far as the Hammers are concerned, with Ex detailing manager David Moyes’ affection for the player.

He said: “Interestingly for West Ham, it’s been reported that Aston Villa are prepared to listen to offers for John McGinn. I’ve said before that West Ham are keen on this player.

“Moyes likes him, thinks he’d be a great person to come into our midfield. It’ll be interesting to see whether that is actually true and whether bids do come in for him.”

West Ham United fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with Felipe Anderson

While the 48-cap Scotland international may find it difficult to break up the current tandem of Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek, McGinn could certainly force his way into the thinking of the Irons’ management team with his robust displays.

He is valued at £28.8m by Transfermarkt and according to WhoScored, McGinn was Villa’s top performer last season, averaging a 7.17 rating, suggesting he could be a reliable performer in that east London engine room.

Compared to the current midfield duo, McGinn ranks highest for shot-creating actions per 90 minutes with 2.8 as well as for tackles, dribble success rate and cross-field passes, further illustrating his benefits to the London Stadium squad should they decide to make an offer.
