Presenter ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United could be considering a possible transfer for Juan Mata.

The 34-year-old will be available on a free transfer this summer when his contract with Manchester United expires, so he will likely be looking for a new club over the coming months.

It seems as though West Ham could be a possible destination for the Spanish midfielder if these latest claims are to be believed.

Indeed, while speaking about the player on The West Ham Way Podcast, Ex claimed that a source had told him to ‘keep an eye out’ for a possible move for Mata.

The club insider explained: “He was one of David Moyes’ signings when he was at Manchester United and he’s just been released by Manchester United.

“Now, he’s 34, so that makes me think we wouldn’t bother. But Moyes has signed [Patrice] Evra in the past.

“He has been known to bring in the odd old player that had a lot of talent. And apparently, Juan Mata is still in very good nick – still, you know, as fit as anyone, still a decent player.

“And I’m not saying 100% he [Moyes] would even be interested in him, I don’t know, but someone just said to me, sent me a text, ‘keep an eye out on this transfer’, but that is not me confirming it.”

TIF Thoughts on Juan Mata and West Ham…

Mata certainly has a pretty impressive Premier League career behind him. Indeed, with Man United, he played 285 games, scoring 51 goals and winning four trophies along the way.

Ex makes clear that Moyes has a past of bringing in the ‘odd old player that had a lot of talent’, and so the 34-year-old veteran would certainly fit into that bracket.

However, Mata didn’t play a lot of football last term, featuring just 12 times in all competitions for the Red Devils in his final season with the club. That could put West Ham off from making a move. Even so, judging from Ex’s comments, a surprise transfer move could potentially be on the cards this summer, though it seems to currently be only interest at best from the Hammers’ point of view.
