Presenter ExWHUemployee has stated that West Ham United defender Issa Diop is wanted by two European clubs.

As things stand, it looks as though the Hammers are extremely keen on signing a new centre-back this summer. Indeed, if reports are to be believed, Stade Rennais man Nayef Aguerd is very close to signing for the east London outfit.

Should that deal go through, it would make some sense for the club to look to offload a player who will likely have their game time limited next season as a result of any new arrival.

With that in mind, Diop looks to be the man who is up for sale – and Lazio and Lyon are supposedly both considering a move for the 25-year-old.

Discussing the matter on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex explained what he knew.

He said: “Lazio in Italy are looking at Diop; there’s clubs from France that are also interested in him.

“Our opponents in the [Europa League] quarter-finals, Lyon, are also after him. So I think if we could get a centre-back in, and we get maybe another one in, Diop will go.”

TIF Thoughts on Issa Diop and West Ham…

This season, Diop only managed to start 10 Premier League games throughout the entirety of the campaign, which suggests he wasn’t one of David Moyes’ preferred centre-back options.

With that in mind, it is interesting to hear Ex state that the club may let him go, but it could depend on whether or not the club can sign one or maybe even two players to play in the backline.

Lyon may be an attractive option for Diop as it would be a return home for the Frenchman. However, Lazio have an impressive history and may also be tempting if a bid was to come in.

For now, though, it looks as if it could all hinge on the arrival of a few new players at West Ham first.
