Insider ExWHUemployee has stated that West Ham United are interested in signing Christian Eriksen, even though a deal is unlikely.
As things stand, the Dane will see his contract with Brentford expire in the summer and he will have to make a major decision regarding the next step of his career, with a number of Premier League clubs interested.
Indeed, the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Everton are all linked with a move.
On top of that, the Bees also want to retain the midfielder despite the heavy competition, and it seems West Ham have now been added to that list, too.
While talking about the player on The West Ham Way Patreon page, Ex said the Hammers certainly like the player – but with so many others chasing his signature, it would take some ‘real convincing’ to get a deal done this summer.
He explained: “We can reveal that Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen is a player that we admire but are very unlikely to sign.
“The interest has been reported on a number of other sites and I have been asked whether he is likely to sign. His former club Spurs, the club he joined last season Brentford, Everton and Manchester United are all said to be in the mix and a wage battle could happen for the out-of-contract player.
Would Christian Eriksen do well at West Ham?
Yes
No
“Eriksen, who is 30 years of age, is said to be really torn between those options, with Spurs really keen to fend off Manchester United for the signature. Eriksen is torn between signing for Spurs where he is a hero, signing for Manchester United where he has a strong relationship with the new manager or returning to Brentford who will make him their highest-paid player and a club who were prepared to take a chance on him when others wouldn’t due to his previous heart scares.
“It would take a large wage offer and some real convincing to see the Dane in Claret and Blue next year.”
TIF Thoughts on Christian Eriksen and West Ham…
After arriving at Brentford during the past season, Eriksen played 11 times, scoring once while also providing four assists. Crucially, he helped the Bees claim seven wins during that period, leading them to an impressive 13th-placed finish in the Premier League.
His short spell there was a reminder of the quality he has – in a career where he has been named Danish Player of the Year three times in a row – so it is no shock to see him linked with some big English clubs.
That he would potentially be able to join for free will only make him a more attractive option, but this looks like to be a major stumbling block for West Ham, who seem to be losing the race for his signature at this stage.
