Presenter ExWHUemployee has revealed that contract talks between West Ham United and Tomas Soucek are not going well.

Over the past few weeks, it has been reported that the Czech midfielder could be sold this summer. This might have come as a surprise for some – after all, he won the Hammer of the Year just a season earlier, but West Ham are supposedly willing to listen to offers for the player.

A new update suggests why the club’s stance could be this way, as Soucek is supposedly struggling to agree terms on a new contract with the Hammers.

Talking on The West Ham Way podcast about the futures of those on the Hammers’ books, Ex said: “In terms of other players, Soucek’s talks are still ongoing, but not going too well at the moment.”

As things stand, Soucek’s current deal is set to expire in June 2024 (via Transfermarkt). It remains unclear as to how much he is being offered by the club for a new contract, but Ex claimed back in March that the figure was around £80-85k per week.

Having played 35 Premier League games for the Hammers this past season, there should be no doubting how valuable the midfielder is to the team, but for whatever reason, it looks as though a new deal might not be signed.

If that is the case and Soucek does leave, West Ham may have to sign a replacement this summer to avoid him entering the final year of his current deal. With that in mind, it does make sense that options have already been linked. For instance, Leeds United man Kalvin Phillips was recently touted for a possible transfer.
