Podcaster Dan Lawless has slammed West Ham United for missing out on signing 19-year-old Sparta Prague forward Adam Hlozek despite the club’s second-highest shareholder owning the Czech Republic side.
The Hammers are looking to continue building their squad around the ideas of manager David Moyes with his side finishing seventh in the Premier League table and qualifying for the Europa Conference League after losing out in the Europa League this season.
However, it seems as if the east London team may have just missed out on a bargain signing in Hlozek, who has just signed with Bayer Leverkusen for €13m (£11.1m) from Sparta Prague. Arguably, the Premier League side should have been involved with the signing as one of their shareholders, Daniel Kretinsky, owns the Czech side.
West Ham Fan TV host Lawless took to Twitter to air his disappointment at the missed opportunity to sign the 19-year-old, despite the rumour that manager David Moyes did not want to sign him.
He wrote: “Our second-highest shareholder owns Sparta Prague. How have we missed out on this? Did Moyes not fancy him? €13m is a bargain, surely we could have got an even better deal. Kretinsky needs to prove he is serious this summer, this is slightly concerning”.

The Hammers may have just missed out on a huge signing in Hlozek, as he notched 12 goals and 15 assists this past term, while he has played in a number of roles, including at striker, left-wing, centre-forward and attacking midfield, according to Transfermarkt.
He only cost Die Werkself a measly €13m, which is nothing for a player with his goal and assist tally in today’s market, and as Lawless said, with the club’s links to the Czech side, could they not have gotten an even better deal for the 19-year-old?
Even if Moyes doesn’t particularly rate him, getting a player with potential for that price can surely only be a win-win for a side that is not blessed with the expenditure of the top six they are currently battling against. Moyes could come to regret their decision next season.
