West Ham United: Journalist highlights ridiculous claim from Moyes

Image for West Ham United: Journalist highlights ridiculous claim from Moyes

Journalist Jacque Talbot has labelled David Moyes saying he would reject a £150m bid for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice as a ridiculous statement.

Rice has become one of the most sought-after talents in world football, with reports claiming that Premier League sides Manchester City and Manchester United are the two main clubs interested in his signature.

The English midfielder has been a mainstay in the West Ham side over recent years, featuring 32 times or more in the last four Premier League seasons, making a total of 167 top-flight appearances at just 23 years old.

Moyes has recently said that West Ham will not listen to any offers lower than £150m for Rice, and whilst speaking with GiveMeSport, Talbot has given his view on the Hammers boss’ comments.

He said: “I’m told West Ham have offered Declan Rice an eight-year contract to make him their highest-paid player ever.

“David Moyes has talked up about ‘if we got £150million, we’re going to turn it down’. I’m sorry, that’s the most ridiculous thing to ever say. Why would you turn £150million down on a player? Rice is fantastic and a world-class talent, but you can make a really great team out of £150million. That can transform a club.”

Should West Ham accept £150 million for Rice?

TIF Thoughts on Talbot’s comments…

Rice has been at the forefront of the stats for West Ham this season in the Premier League. He had the highest average player rating (7.19), as well as averaging 54.8 accurate passes and 1.8 interceptions per game – which were the highest amounts in his side, as per SofaScore.

If a club comes in for Rice with a bid of £150m, it could be seen as crazy for Moyes to turn this down, because he could make three or four high-profile signings with this amount of money, which could then push the team on to become an established European side, even without Rice in the team.
