Journalist Paul Brown has claimed that West Ham United will not want Tomas Soucek to leave the club in the summer.

There have been recent reports stating that West Ham have attempted to tie down Soucek to a new deal with the club, but the talks have been put on hold due to the Czech international’s wage demands, although he does still have two years left on his current deal.

Soucek has been a mainstay in the West Ham side since he signed a permanent deal with the club in 2020, featuring 38 times in the Premier League in the 2020/21 season, while he made another 33 appearances in the top flight this past term.

Despite Soucek not putting pen to paper with a new deal at West Ham, Brown has highlighted to GiveMeSport that he doubts the midfielder will part ways with the club.

He said: “They certainly don’t want him to leave; they’ve made him an offer. I doubt he does leave. I think he’s happy there.

“He only leaves if a Champions League club comes in for him with a really good offer. I think at the moment he’s quite content to stay.”

TIF Thoughts on Brown’s comments…

Soucek has been a star performer for West Ham again this season. In the Premier League for the Hammers, he averages the third-most tackles per game (1.9), the second-most interceptions (1.5) and the fifth-highest average player rating (6.97), as per SofaScore.

Even though Soucek still has two years left on his current contract at West Ham, David Moyes will still be keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal at the club to ensure he does not run down his contract and depart on a free transfer.

With the heavy rumours that Declan Rice is going to depart from the club, there is even more reason to make sure that Soucek signs a new deal, as it would be a disaster for the Hammers to lose both of their midfield duo.
