Journalist Paul Brown has claimed that West Ham United defender Issa Diop will be open to a move in the summer due to being out of favour.

Diop has had a frustrating season this term for West Ham as he missed large chunks of football due to injury, and when he was fit, he found himself low down the pecking order, which meant that he featured just 13 times in the league for the Hammers in 2021/22.

Due to Diop not cementing his place in the West Ham side, he might be keen to leave the club in the summer, and there have been reports that both Lazio and Lyon are interested in his signature, where he could potentially get his career back on track with some regular first-team football.

With the lack of game time being offered to Diop this season, Brown highlighted to GiveMeSport that he will be someone who is ‘definitely open to a move’.

He said: “As far as I know, he’s well aware that he’s not going to get regular first-team football at West Ham.

“He’s not going to be anything more than a backup, really, to two – possibly three – other centre-backs. So, he is someone who is definitely open to a move.”

TIF Thoughts on Brown’s comments…

Diop has one year remaining on his current contract with West Ham and the club have an option to extend his stay by an extra year, but with the failed impact that he has had at the club, both parties may be keen to see him leave in the upcoming window.

The French defender reportedly earns £67,000 a week, so if West Ham can sell him in the summer, it will free up space on the wage bill for them to potentially bring in some new talent in the summer that can have a greater impact than Diop.
