Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that any rumours suggesting former Manchester United outcast Jesse Lingard is close to a move to West Ham United this summer are ‘wide of the mark’.

The Hammers impressed last season, finishing seventh in the Premier League and reaching the semi-final in the Europa League where they narrowly lost to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt. As a result, they are looking to invest in the squad with Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd already joining this summer.

They have also been linked with former loanee Lingard, who they wanted to buy in January but were turned down by Manchester United, however, according to Ex, any rumours of the deal being close to completion are false.

He said on the West Ham Way Patreon page, “Reports of Jesse Lingard being close are wide of the mark. The offer has been in from the start of the window but the player is still weighing up options as we speak”.

TIF Thoughts on Lingard to West Ham…

The Hammers need to add to their attacking depth next season as they only have Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, and Said Benrahma as recognised forwards in the squad for next season. Lingard would be a perfect addition to the side as he is a free agent and has already spent time in East London on loan during their 20/21 campaign.

When played for the Irons he showed his class with nine goals and fives assists in 16 appearances in the Premier League, he also ranked in the 91st percentile for passes into the final third, 93rd for goal-creating actions, and 85th for pressures per game according to Fbref.

The Hammers would be able to sign the £16.2m-rated forgotten man on a free transfer, which would make the deal a win/win the club. If he succeeds they have gotten him for free and could potentially cash in next summer, and if he doesn’t perform, they can cut their losses knowing they did not have to spend big on the transfer fee.
