Journalist Charlie Eccleshare has revealed why exactly Tottenham Hotspur will not likely sign Christian Eriksen this summer.
The Dane is currently a free agent and has been linked with Spurs, but it seems as though he will end up at either Manchester United or Brentford next season.
Considering he used to play for Tottenham, many might have expected the north London outfit to be keen on a reunion, but Eccleshare has explained that in Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, manager Antonio Conte already has his midfield plans sorted.
While speaking on The Fighting Cock podcast, the journalist said (19:07): “That quartet is part of the reason why we understand now that Spurs are not really pushing on Christian Eriksen. Even though, as you say, he does offer something different.”
Will Spurs regret not signing Christian Eriksen?

TIF thoughts on Spurs and their midfield…
Already this summer, Tottenham have gone out and signed Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion. Judging from Eccleshare’s comments, that seems to have been the final piece on the puzzle for Conte and his midfield for now.
He did, of course, also bring in Bentancur from Juventus as recently as January, so the club have certainly moved to strengthen that position of late.
Eriksen is more of an attacking option – having contributed four assists and a goal in just 11 Premier League outings last season – but Spurs obviously feel as though they have enough creativity in the team without signing the Dane.
And so, it does look as though Conte and co will pass up on the chance to sign their former player in the current transfer market.
