Journalist Jacque Talbot has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Pau Torres.

There have been reports stating that Torres is on the radar of Spurs ahead of the summer transfer window, but Manchester United are also interested in his signature, as Erik ten Hag is keen to bolster his defence at the club.

Torres has been a mainstay for Villarreal this past season, featuring 47 times in all competitions whilst chipping in with six goals, with 12 of his appearances coming in the club’s successful Champions League run when they reached the semi-finals.

With both Spurs and United showing interest in Torres, Talbot claimed that he can’t see him in a Manchester United shirt next season – which may in turn open the door for Spurs.

According to GiveMeSport, Talbot was asked which centre-back Spurs were most likely to sign, to which he responded: “Pau Torres has obviously been linked with Man United, but I’ve heard that because Villarreal aren’t in the Champions League next season, they’re going to have to get rid of a few players and he’s the most likely one that will go.

“I struggle to see him at Manchester United, I think Ten Hag is going to be slightly more pragmatic.”

TIF Thoughts on Talbot’s comments…

Although Villarreal had an enjoyable run in the Champions League, they failed to qualify for the competition ahead of next season, so Torres – who has been described as ‘amazing’ by Unai Emery – might be looking to leave and join a club like Spurs, who have qualified.

Torres to Spurs seems like a good fit, as he will have ambitions to play in the Champions League and Antonio Conte will be surely be happy to strengthen his side with players that have proven themselves in the competition.

Spurs’ Premier League counterparts Manchester United are also in the race to sign Torres, but Conte’s side now have an advantage in terms of signing new players as they can offer them Champions League football, so we can see why Talbot believes north London appears a more likely destination for the Spaniard than Old Trafford.
