Journalist Michael Bridge has claimed that Alessandro Bastoni signing for Tottenham Hotspur is not completely out of the question.
There have been reports that Bastoni is on top of Spurs’ transfer list for central defenders in the summer transfer window, but they have received a setback in proceedings as the player’s agent had confirmed that he will not be leaving Inter.
And it appears that Spurs might have turned their focus elsewhere when searching for a new centre-back, with Villarreal’s Pau Torres emerging as a main target for Antonio Conte, as they might be able to offer Giovani Lo Celso as part of a swap deal following his loan spell in Spain.
But despite Bastoni’s agent stating that he will remain at the San Siro, Bridge claimed to GiveMeSport that the deal ‘hasn’t completely gone away’.
He said: “Tottenham have offered the money, what can you do, he is young and sometimes we forget moving country can be tough and he seems happy.
“Inter seem quite successful at the moment. I think it probably hasn’t completely gone away because people I’ve spoken to have said that Inter would do the deal if the player was keen. They have to get someone out of the door and Tottenham were prepared to meet their valuation.”

It is evident that Spurs are keen to acquire a new central defender, with Ben Davies occupying the slot on the left side of the back three last season, therefore, Conte might be keen to bring someone to play this role so Davies can revert to his preferred position.
Bastoni was Inter’s highest-rated defender in Serie A that started more than half the games last season with an average player rating of 7.1 (as per SofaScore), and Conte will know him from their time at the club together, so this could give Spurs a boost in their attempts to sign him.
Meanwhile, it is surely good news for fans who had given up hope on signing the centre-back, as Bridge’s comments certainly suggest Spurs could yet persuade Bastoni to link up again with his former manager.
