Journalist Ryan Taylor has said that he thinks Djed Spence will be Tottenham Hotspur’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window.

There have been reports stating that talks have taken place this week between Tottenham and Spence over a potential move to the north London club for the young wing-back.

Spence was in fine form last season whilst on loan with Nottingham Forest from Middlesbrough, as he played a key role in Forest gaining promotion to the Premier League, and was awarded for his displays with a place in the Championship Team of the Season.

With Spurs showing interest in Spence, Taylor has claimed to GiveMeSport that he feels the 20-year-old will be Antonio Conte’s fourth signing of the window.

He said: “I think Spence will be Tottenham’s fourth signing. The kind of noises I was getting around Spence was they were going to bid after the end of the international break, but that didn’t happen, although that’s not to say their interest in Spence has cooled.

“It looks like they may have had an opening offer rejected, but Spurs want to get the deal done, and Forest are looking at other targets.”

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…

Spence is just 20 years old and was one of the standout players in the Championship last season, so it may not be likely that he will remain at Middlesbrough next season, especially with Forest showing interest in his services on a permanent deal and with Spurs being able to offer him the opportunity to play in the Champions League.

Although it might be difficult for Spence to turn down the opportunity to play in the Champions League, the fact that he has zero experience in the Premier League means he might not go into the starting XI straight away, unlike if he was to return to Forest, so it will be interesting to see how proceedings pan out.
