Tottenham Hotspur are expected to complete a deal for the Middlesbrough right wing-back, Djed Spence, this summer.
This has been suggested by the Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge who has been speaking to This Is Futbol about the north London club’s plans.
Spurs have been linked with Spence for a while now but it does feel as if a move for the 21-year-old has not progressed much since the transfer window opened.
Alasdair Gold reported last weekend that he understood Spence’s future may become a bit more clear in the early stages of this week.
However, that does not seem to have been the case, but Bridge remains confident Fabio Paratici will get this potential deal over the line.
He said: “I do believe Spurs will eventually get this signing done, unless there’s gonna be some kind of turnaround.
“Spurs haven’t been watching him just for five or six games, they’ve been watching him for some time. He’s one of many they’ve looked at because they need to up this quota, the homegrown, and they’ve seen enough for them to suggest that Conte could work with him and improve Tottenham’s wing-back area.”
TIF Thoughts on Bridge’s comments…
It certainly has felt like a quiet week on Spence’s future following reports last Friday suggesting a deal was close to completion with a fee agreed.
Is Spence an improvement on Doherty?
Yes
No
Since those reports were shut down, Spurs have made moves in the transfer window with Yves Bissouma’s announcement as a Spurs player now believed to be imminent.
Spence had an impressive 2021/22 campaign with Nottingham Forest and received big praise from former Arsenal striker Ian Wright:
“If we are talking about right-backs performing at an unbelievable level, we’re talking Reece James and Trent [Alexander-Arnold],” said Wright (via Nottingham Post).
“But I have not seen a combative, technical, swashbuckling performance like that for a very long time.”
