Tottenham Hotspur is still looking to bring in Middlesbrough wing-back and wantaway star Djed Spence this summer despite no official bid offered from the Premier League club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Sprus are looking to improve their wing-back options with a possible move for Spence, who impressed at Nottingham Forest last season after current starter Emerson Royal failed to lock down the position last season.

Romano recently confirmed the club are still interested in signing the £7.2m-rated defender this summer but no formal offer has been submitted despite the player being an important target for the North London outfit.

He told Chris Cowlin: “It’s still on at the moment. They are still conversating on the potential fee, on the potential proposal but there is still no official bid so we will have to wait a bit to see if Tottenham will submit this proposal or move to a different target.

“We know Fabio Paratici works on many players for the same position, this is not new, and so Spence has always been an important target for Tottenham but I’m sure not the only one… For Spence they are still working so I will not say the deal is off.”

TIF thoughts on Spence to Spurs…

Spence was a key factor during the Garibaldi’s promotion last season as he played 42 games in the Championship, bagging two goals and five assists in those games. He impressed with underlying stats as well, averaging, 1.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.4 clearances, one key pass, 1.7 dribbles, and 1.2 long balls per game with 76.1% passing accuracy. the player garnered high praise during last season, with Arsenal and Crystal Palace legend Ian Wright comparing him to the likes of Reece James and Trent Alexander-Arnold after his FA Cup performances against Arsenal.

He said, “But let me say, that was one of the best right-back performances I have seen for a very long time. A very long time. If we are talking about right-backs performing at an unbelievable level, we’re talking Reece James and Trent (Alexander-Arnold). But I have not seen a combative, technical, swashbuckling performance like that for a very long time”.

With praise like this, it is easy to see why Spurs are looking to sign the right-back and combine this with Antonio Conte’s guidance who famously gets the best out of his wing-backs, it could be a recipe for success.
