Alasdair Gold has dropped an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Christian Eriksen while speaking on his YouTube channel.

Eriksen’s former club – the one he so desperately wanted to leave in January 2020 – have reportedly held an interest in the midfielder after he reportedly rejected a proposal from Brentford to remain at the club following his short half-season stint with the Bees.

However, they are certainly not alone, with The Athletic reporting that Manchester United have made an approach to the midfielder about joining Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford – and according to Gold’s latest update, the Red Devils may now have a clearer run at Eriksen.

This is because Gold has claimed that Spurs have never followed up their initial interest in the Dane and are now distancing themselves from the player.

He said: “I think we have to talk about Christian Eriksen because for those, including myself, who would like to see Christian Eriksen back at Tottenham, I’ve been doing a bit of digging on both sides of that potential deal today.

Will Spurs regret not signing Eriksen?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“It kind of seems like Spurs have gone cold on it, and for whatever reason that is – and we’ll discuss those as we talk about the kind of details and what I know – I know that at this current time, they haven’t followed up on initial interest shown.

“Certainly, those from the Spurs side are really distancing themselves, from those that I’ve spoken to inside Spurs with regard to any discussions going on about Christian Eriksen whatsoever right now.

“And from the other side of things, people I’ve spoken to on that side, they’re saying that Spurs were in contact about two weeks ago over Eriksen with his camp about a potential return, but just haven’t followed that up since; that’s kind of left it where it was then.”

TIF Thoughts on Eriksen…

On paper, it would appear that Eriksen re-joining Spurs would be a perfect fit. He already knows the club and a lot of people within it very well, he can remain in London and would also be able to work under former manager Antonio Conte.

However, as Gold spoke about, it appears that something doesn’t fit or feel right from the Spurs end which has seen them cool their interest significantly, which will likely be a blow to those fans who wanted to see a reunion with the player who played for Spurs 305 times.
