Tottenham Hotspur would still be in the running for Lautaro Martinez if he is to leave Inter this summer.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has suggested Spurs would still look at the Argentinian as an option as Antonio Conte looks to provide Harry Kane with some backup.

Spurs have made a move for the 24-year-old in the past, with Fabio Paratici launching a £60m bid for the striker just last summer.

Although a fee was reportedly agreed between the two clubs, a move never materialised and Martinez went on to score 21 goals in Serie A last season.

With Inter struggling financially, the superstar offers the Serie A giants an opportunity to fund their summer, and Gold believes he is still on Tottenham’s radar.

He said: “Of course, Lautaro Martinez, I mentioned earlier – Conte and Paratici big fans of his. I think they’ll keep an eye on what happens with his situation. Because if [Paulo] Dybala and [Romelu] Lukaku are coming in, where does that leave Martinez? Might make it a little bit difficult to keep him.

“I think he’s got a lot of suitors out there. He only did sign a new deal last year. But I think Spurs would be in the mix for him, I do. I think, with Conte as well as the pull there, and I think he’s such a good quality player, I think he would ensure that he was getting a lot of football as well.

“And that competition up front would be ridiculous. It’d be so good. So yeah, maybe keep an eye on what happens with him and Inter and their finances.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We are really interested to see who Spurs are able to bring in this summer as a potential backup to Kane, with Everton’s Richarlison also a reported target.

Who would be the better signing for Spurs?

However, it has to be one of Paratici’s most challenging tasks given Kane is one of the world’s best strikers and plays such a prominent role in the Spurs XI.

Would Martinez be willing to play second fiddle to Kane? It is hard to imagine, so if Spurs are seriously looking at the Argentinian, it would be interesting to see how Conte would accommodate the two strikers.
