Tottenham Hotspur are showing an interest in Ukrainian centre-back Illya Zabarnyi, who is being tipped for big things in the future.

This is what reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold has suggested on his latest YouTube video as he discussed Tottenham’s targets at centre-back this summer.

The Lilywhites have been chasing Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni in the early stages of this summer, however, recent comments from his agent have suggested a move to N17 is now off.

Zabarnyi still has five years remaining on his deal with Dynamo Kyiv, however, given the current climate in Ukraine, Gold believes he is a player who could move on.

And Gold believes the Lilywhites have got their eyes set on a potential move for the Ukrainian this summer, as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his squad.

He said: “New one for you that I learned this week, that Spurs are really closely looking at 19-year-old Ukraine international – I want to get his name right – Illya Zabarnyi.

“He’s very highly rated, honestly, despite the fact that I’ve struggled to pronounce his name. He’s one that a few clubs are looking at as a big potential star. 19-year-old, right-footed but can play on either side of defence.

“He did sign a new long-term deal with Dynamo Kyiv last October; five-year deal. However, obviously, things are so unknown right now in what’s happening in Ukraine.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

This is certainly an interesting one. We doubt too many fans will have heard of the 19-year-old centre-back, but it is apparent those who Gold has spoken to about him have him very highly rated.

Do you think Spurs can still land Bastoni?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Despite being so young, he has racked up a lot of first-team football and impressively already has 12 appearances in the Champions League under his belt.

With a move for Bastoni seemingly on the ropes and Josko Gvardiol expected to remain at RB Leipzig, we are interested to see how Spurs attack the centre-back market, and perhaps Zabarnyi could be a good option for the future in N17.
