Tottenham Hotspur are now in discussions with the agent of Gabriel Jesus over a potential move to north London this summer.
This is what transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has said whilst speaking to Chris Cowlin on his YouTube channel to discuss all things Spurs.
Spurs are just one of the clubs believed to be showing an interest in the Manchester City striker this summer, with the Brazilian expected to leave.
However, the club believed to be leading the race to land the 25-year-old are Tottenham’s north London rivals Arsenal as they aim to add a striker to their squad ahead of next season.
He said: “At the moment, there is no bid to Manchester City, but there are contacts between the [agents of] Jesus and Tottenham. Let me say that Arsenal are leading the race for him [for a] long time because of the Brazilian connection with their director Edu Gaspar, who is working on it.
“For Tottenham, they are discussing with his agent. They had conversations with his agent. So for Gabriel, it’s a possibility, but it’s important for the player to understand what will be the plan. Because Gabriel Jesus is leaving Manchester City this summer, but he wants to play, he wants to be a key player in the next club he will join.”
TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…
We think Jesus, who was called a ‘superstar’ by Steve McManaman earlier this year, would be a great signing for Spurs this summer, as the Brazilian provided a healthy return for City across the 2021/22 campaign with a total of 25 goal involvements (via Transfermarkt).
Can you see Jesus joining Spurs?
However, there have to be huge question marks as to why he would choose to join Spurs with first-team football not guaranteed while one of the best strikers in the world is leading the line at Spurs.
This is likely to be the reason he is leaving City, with the arrival of Erling Haaland expected to push Jesus onto the bench, and although Spurs have Champions League football, surely regular game time will be a more attractive proposition.
