Tottenham Hotspur are already receiving interest in right-back Emerson Royal ahead of the summer transfer window.

This is what Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed on his latest YouTube video when covering the summer dealings expected at Hotspur Way.

Not even 12 months have passed since Spurs added the Brazilian to their squad after signing the 23-year-old from Barcelona in a deal believed to be worth around £25.8m.

Spurs are already being heavily linked with a potential replacement for Emerson, with Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence believed to be high up on Fabio Paratici’s list.

And with a possible replacement already lined up, Gold believes Spurs could quickly offload the 23-year-old, with interest already flooding in ahead of the window opening.

He said: “I think there’s been some interest from La Liga clubs, a couple of those, so maybe keep an eye on that. It’s tough on Emerson. Look, Emerson has been so much more improved in the last month of the season or so.

“Conte very much changed the system, jiggled it a little bit so that he was mainly focused on his defending and [Dejan] Kulusevski was providing all of the width in attack. But to be fair, that’s compromising Conte’s system.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We think there will be a lot of Spurs fans who will be pleased to hear this, with the 23-year-old failing to provide an attacking threat in Antonio Conte’s system, having recorded just one assist all season.

Would it be the right call to sell Emerson?

Yes

Yes

No

No

However, in the latter stages of the campaign, the £22.5m-rated Emerson played a more defensive-minded role in the Spurs backline and impressed in their big games against Liverpool and Arsenal. He was also called a ‘really top’ player by Antonio Conte for his performance against Brighton in the FA Cup.

With this in mind, we think Spurs may find it fairly easy to offload him this summer, with a number of clubs clearly feeling he could do a job in their side already.

The wingback role Conte likes to use doesn’t really suit Emerson. As such, we haven’t seen the best of him. I would say selling him is best all round.
