Djed Spence is the perfect man for Antonio Conte to take into the 2022/23 campaign at right wing-back for Tottenham Hotspur.
This has been suggested by TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, who was speaking live on air about the Middlesbrough defender’s future.
It has been reported Spurs are still among the frontrunners to land the 21-year-old this summer, with developments on his future expected to come in the next few days.
Nottingham Forest are said to be still hoping to bring Spence back to the City Ground having spent the past season there on loan, however, they face fierce competition from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Having spoken to some of his contacts within the Championship, Crook suggested this would be a signing which could prove to be a huge success for Conte and Spurs.
He said: “I’ve spoken to people at other Championship clubs and they tell me he is just about the perfect signing for Antonio Conte to play in that wing-back role.
“Very quick player, someone who loves to get forward, big engine – all the attributes that you feel Antonio Conte looks for in a wing-back.”
TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…
Do you think Spence would be a good signing for Spurs?
Spence was able to provide five league assists, however, he was also able to create one key pass per game in his 42 Championship appearances (via WhoScored).
However, it is a big step up to the Premier League, and Ryan Sessegnon is an example of the struggles Spence may face, so Spurs fans will likely require some patience with the youngster as he beds in should he arrive.
