Tottenham Hotspur’s reported target Djed Spence is believed to want to stay at Nottingham Forest ahead of the new season.

This is according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has been speaking on Touchline Talk about the 21-year-old’s future.

Reports suggest the north London club are seriously interested in the Middlesbrough prospect after an impressive campaign out on loan with Forest.

However, having gained promotion with Steve Cooper’s side, it is believed Forest will make a move to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis this summer.

Spence made 46 appearances for Forest this season and provided three goals and five assists across all competitions – which Jones believes has tempted Forest to pursue a permanent deal.

He said: “I’m told, Djed Spence, there’s a good chance he stays. Obviously, there is interest from Tottenham, but I think he wants to stay. I think he really likes it, from what I’ve heard.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We do not necessarily think this is bad news for Spurs, given the youngster is still unproven at a level higher than the Championship.

Spurs have shown their support for Antonio Conte this summer with a huge cash boost ahead of the summer, and we do think they should be looking to spend a big chunk of that money on the right wing-back position.

And although we think Spence could potentially be a real star for the future, we do question whether he could slot into the Spurs side and instantly provide goals and assists.
