Tottenham Hotspur are growing in confidence over the possibility of landing free agent Christian Eriksen this summer.

This has been suggested by TalkSport journalist Alex Crook, who has been discussing the Danish midfielder’s future live on air.

Reports are now surfacing suggesting Eriksen will turn down the possibility of returning to Brentford next season after the Bees put forward a big deal to bring him back to the Community Stadium, where the Dane enjoyed a short-term stint with a goal and four assists in the league.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are also believed to have lodged an offer for Eriksen.

With the 30-year-old believed to be looking to stay put in the English capital, Crook feels there is a sense of confidence growing at Hotspur Way over bringing Eriksen back to Spurs.

He said: “I think Tottenham at the moment are fairly confident. They believe they’re in the box seat for Christian Eriksen. He’s got history with that football club, he still has a good relationship with the supporters, despite the fact he left. Antonio Conte knows his strengths all too well.

“And I think crucially, I’ve been told by more than one source that his family are settled in London, they don’t really want to leave the capital. So surely that puts Tottenham very much at the forefront of his mind.”

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

We think this will be a huge boost to Spurs if they are able to land Eriksen this summer, as they lacked a lot of creativity from their midfielders last season.

Do you want Eriksen back at Spurs?

No

The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Winks only managed six assists between them all year and in games like Burnley away, there was a clear need for some creative input.

Spurs would offer Eriksen a familiar setting, and with the Champions League clearly a factor in his decision-making, we do think Spurs can provide the 30-year-old with the best offer this summer.

Having provided Spurs with 159 goal involvements in the past, journalist Graeme Bailey has hailed the midfielder as a ‘superstar’ signing this summer for whoever is able to land him.
