Tottenham Hotspur could be set to reward Ben Davies with a new deal after an impressive 2021/22 campaign in north London.
This has been suggested by Alasdair Gold, who has been discussing the latest transfer news at Hotspur Way on his latest YouTube video.
Davies played a huge role under Antonio Conte since the Italian’s arrival back in November, having made 35 appearances under the 52-year-old.
The 29-year-old has also been impressive for his national side, with the centre-back receiving huge praise for his recent display in their victory over Ukraine.
With the Welshman now picking up some credit for his performances, Gold believes Spurs could look to extend the defender’s stay in N17.
He said: “They definitely need another left-footed centre-back to go in there as well – of course, they do; they need competition there.
“But Ben Davies played very, very well [for Wales]. And I do wonder whether he might end up with a new contract in the not-too-distant future as well, because I think he’s only got two years left and [is] probably playing the best football of his career right now.”
TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…
We feel a possible new deal for the Welshman is absolutely deserved after what has been a seriously impressive campaign where he was able to maintain his spot under the demanding Conte.
Does Davies deserve a new deal?
Conte has already hailed Davies for his displays in the 2021/22 campaign, telling Spurs TV after the win over Newcastle United: “Ben is playing a fantastic season, in my opinion.
“He’s a reliable player, he scored an important goal for us and I think he deserved to score this goal. Ben is playing in an important way with us, as a central defender and he’s showing that he’s a really good player.”
And with Tottenham’s search for another left-sided centre-back hitting the rocks in recent days, securing Davies’ future in north London could be an extremely smart move from Daniel Levy.
