Tottenham Hotspur hold a lot of interest in the RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol ahead of the summer transfer window.

This is according to reliable Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, who has been discussing the north London club’s transfer targets in defence.

It is believed Tottenham are pursuing the potential signing of Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni, but there is the belief he may need some convincing to leave the San Siro.

With some question marks lingering over the possibility of landing the Italian defender this summer, there is the belief Spurs have a backup plan in shape of the Leipzig centre-back.

However, any move for the Croatian is expected to be matched by interest from across Europe, and Gold highlighted how difficult a deal for the 20-year-old could be.

He said: “I reported the other day that Tottenham really like Josko Gvardiol, although there will be competition for his signature and there are suggestions he would like to stay at RB Leipzig for another season.

“Signing the best players isn’t easy, but Paratici and Conte will have their lists of targets.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

It appears as if Spurs have suffered another huge transfer blow, with Djed Spence seemingly wanting to stay at Nottingham Forest on top of this Gvardiol claim.

It does feel as if Bastoni has been identified as Tottenham’s number-one target this summer, with the Inter defender having previously played under Antonio Conte.

And it does feel as if there is more of a reluctance from Gvardiol to move on from the Bundesliga side this summer, going by Gold’s comments.

With this in mind, we do wonder who Spurs may end up turning to if they fail to land either Bastoni or Gvardiol this summer, with Nico Schlotterbeck having signed for Borussia Dortmund and Sven Botman in the middle of another transfer tussle.

This is nothing new though. Every season we are linked with some of the finest players in the world, and every season.. well the supporters all know only too well the outcome.. We still might get Bale back though.
