Journalist Julien Laurens has voiced his concern for the future of Tanguy Ndombele at Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking on The Gab & Juls show, Laurens was reacting to the news that Spurs were closing in on signing midfield enforcer Yves Bissouma, who has since been confirmed as a Tottenham player.

Ndombele was signed by the north Londoners for a club-record £63m back in 2019, but it hasn’t worked out for the 25-year-old.

He has made just 91 appearances for the Lilywhites in three seasons – perhaps not helped by having four different managers in that time.

His best run in a Spurs shirt came under Jose Mourinho, but after just nine Premier League matches before Christmas last term, he was quickly deemed surplus to requirements by Antonio Conte, with the Italian manager sending him on loan to the club from which he came in Lyon.

Now, with the arrival of Bissouma and the emergence of Rodrigo Bentancur, who signed for Tottenham on the same day Ndombele departed, Laurens has cast doubt over his future at the club.

Does Ndombele deserve another shot at Spurs?

Speaking about how Bissouma’s arrival would affect the Spurs squad, he said: “This is good, this is good to play Champions League, it’s good to play in the league. I don’t know if they will rotate, if Hojbjerg will have to make room for Bentancur and Bissouma, but Bissouma brings a lot of the things that they need as well.

“I mean, if I was Tanguy Ndombele, I’d be really worried right now.”

TIF Thoughts on Ndombele’s future…

Starting with a current Tottenham star. How many PL goals has Harry Kane scored for Spurs?

Lyon did have an opportunity to take the Frenchman, who is valued at £27m (as per Transfermarkt), back to the club permanently as part of his loan deal, but it would have taken £54m to activate that clause, and Julien Maynard of Telefoot (via Get French Football News) claimed at the end of last season that they wouldn’t be exercising that option, leaving the player’s future uncertain.

He made just seven starts in Ligue 1 throughout the second half of the season, creating two goals. And with his contract not up until 2025, it looks like Daniel Levy is going to have to find another avenue out of the club for the £120k-per-week outcast, with Bissouma’s signing surely putting an end to any hope of a Spurs revival for Ndombele.
