Journalist Alasdair Gold has claimed on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast that James Maddison has admirers at Tottenham Hotspuralthough a deal would be difficult to pull off.

Back in April, it was reported that both Spurs were among those interested in acquiring the Leicester City ace, having been long-term admirers of the 25-year-old.

With Tottenham seemingly distancing themselves from a move to re-sign Christian Eriksen this window, Gold discussed potential alternatives to be that creative figure under Antonio Conte and Maddison’s name was mentioned, with the reporter admitting that despite having kept tabs on Maddison, it would be ‘difficult’ to obtain the Englishman.

He said: “I know they’ve always liked James Maddison.

“I mean, let’s be honest, he’s a difficult one to get away. He’s got two years left on his contract, but all his talk seems to be about staying at Leicester next season, everything I’ve seen him say. So it’s a difficult one.”

TIF Thoughts on Maddison and Spurs…

Starting with a current Tottenham star. How many PL goals has Harry Kane scored for Spurs?

Despite a seemingly low-key campaign for the attacking midfielder, the Foxes’ Player of the Year was in fact involved in 30 goals last term – much to the astonishment of Gold during the podcast – with England manager Gareth Southgate admitting that he “finished the season very well”, despite leaving him out of the latest national squad.

A 34-minute cameo in a 7-0 thrashing of Montenegro back in November 2019 remains the £45m-rated attacker’s only England cap to date, but having scored 45 goals and created 32 assists in 171 appearances for Leicester, Maddison’s talents are clear for all to see, and should Spurs decide to follow up on their interest, he could prove to be a major signing for the club.

However, it does seem as though they would have to pay a hefty fee to acquire his services.
