Journalist Alasdair Gold has claimed on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast that amid ‘historic interest’ in Blackburn Rovers’ Ben Brereton Diaz, the Chilean would be a ‘perfect signing’ for Tottenham Hotspur.
In what has already been a very productive window for Spurs, they are expected to continue their efforts to improve their squad.
It is believed they will look at the possibility of upgrading their options at centre-forward, and while the club have been heavily linked with moves for Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison, their attention could be turning to the tier below at Blackburn in the Championship.
As per West Ham-focused site Claret and Hugh, Fabio Paratici has sent various scouts to watch the Chilean sharp-shooter – with the Hammers also having an interest in Brereton Diaz – and Gold thinks the 23-year-old would be a perfect fit in north London.

He said: “I’ve heard his name mentioned a couple of times, I know there’s historic interest there in him from Tottenham, but nothing kind of more recent.
“I think he ticks all the boxes.
“He’d be fine with taking a little bit less game time in order to step up a level, learn from Kane and Son, and I think he’d be a really perfect signing there.
“I don’t think he would cost a lot. I think you’re looking at about maybe £15m, tops. And I think, as someone that is probably less likely to kick up a fuss as it’s a bit more of a backup [role], but also getting plenty of game time because of the amount of games… I think he’d be perfect.”
TIF Thoughts on Brereton Diaz and Spurs…
Despite Gold’s comments, Rovers appear to value their star man at £20m, and having been called a ‘beast’ by his former manager Tony Mowbray, he could well be an option worth exploring.
He scored 22 Championship goals last term and it’s unreasonable to think that he couldn’t make the mark at a higher level considering his taking to international level, scoring three goals in seven World Cup qualifiers, including against Argentina back in January.
With Champions League football to contend with again next season, Spurs’ attacking options will be stretched and they will need an able deputy for Harry Kane, with Brereton Diaz perhaps offering the best value for money considering he is still only 23.
