Journalist Alasdair Gold has said that Steven Bergwijn will leave Tottenham Hotspur when Ajax meet the required asking price.
Back in January, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that Spurs were open to selling the Netherlands international, but the north London club turned down a £15m bid from Ajax, with it being claimed that Daniel Levy was hoping to recoup as close to the £27m figure that the club forked out for the winger two and a half years ago before letting him go.
Gold has since reiterated that the Dutch outfit remain interested in the 24-year-old, but insists that they won’t be able to close a deal to bring Bergwijn back to his home country unless they meet Spurs’ demands – though his latest comments seem to suggest that the two clubs will come to an agreement.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, he said: “They’re going to have to replace Steven Bergwijn at some point.
“That move is going to happen, when Ajax finally get up to the price that Spurs want, which will be much closer to the £27m they paid for him from PSV.”

After just four starts in the Premier League last season, the 22-cap international appears to be surplus to requirements, yet having scored five goals in his last seven games for his country, perhaps he will feel he should have been given more of a chance by Antonio Conte.
In 112 Eredivisie matches he directly contributed to 64 goals for PSV, and perhaps a return to the league with their rivals Ajax, will hand Bergwijn the game time he craves and perhaps deserves, as he looks to cement his place in the national side ahead of the World Cup this winter.
