Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has revealed the three defenders he’s seen on Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer wishlist.

Spurs have wasted no time in bolstering their squad this summer and backing Antonio Conte, having already brought in three new faces. They were also seemingly eager to add Alessandro Bastoni of Inter to their backline, only for him to prefer a stay in Italy.

However, despite that early transfer window setback, Tottenham also have other targets that could arrive this summer to improve their defence, including Sven Botman and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.

Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, Thomas has revealed that those three defenders mentioned above are the ones he’s seen on Spurs’ transfer list.

Do Spurs need to sign a centre back?

He said: “They want somebody top – a left centre-back, a specialist in that position to come in.

“The top targets that I have seen for that position have been Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol, and Sven Botman has also been on that list as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs’ centre-back search…

Considering that for the majority of Conte’s time at Spurs he was deploying Ben Davies – a natural left-back – as a third centre-back, this only highlights the desperate need for a left-footed defender to arrive this summer.

While Davies performed admirably for Spurs as he helped them clinch a spot in the top four, Conte will know that a natural top performer in that position is required if Tottenham are to push on in the Premier League and Champions League this coming season.
