Pete O’Rourke has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks would benefit from a move to Everton this summer.

The Englishman’s career has turned fairly stale in the last season or so, especially since the arrival of Antonio Conte, and a new challenge could be the perfect remedy to reviving things.

Previous reports from Matt Law of The Telegraph have confirmed Everton’s interest in Winks, with Frank Lampard reportedly keen to bring in another midfielder. The recent release of Fabian Delph certainly suggests that the Toffees want to find improvements in the middle of the park this summer.

O’Rourke told GiveMeSport: “Yeah, you could see this one. I know that there has been previous interest from Everton in Winks, but he’s remained at Tottenham. I think, probably, Winks does need a new challenge to get his career back on track.

“It was not too long ago he was playing for England, so he might see playing under Frank Lampard, who was a great midfielder himself, and the chance to move to Everton, as a chance to kick-start his career again.”

TIF Thoughts on Harry Winks…

Whilst Winks has never been a standout at Spurs, he has always remained consistent, without necessarily receiving praise for that. The 26-year-old still has plenty of time left in what is supposed to be his prime to step out of the shadows and into the limelight, elsewhere this summer, however – something which remains a possibility.

Playing under a legendary Premier League midfielder such as Lampard will certainly be an attractive concept for Winks, too, who would learn a lot from the manager in similar ways to how the likes of Mason Mount did.

Opting for a more simplistic and robust option rather than the flashy type of midfielder they’ve gone for in the past, may just benefit Everton, too. And, for £25 million – Winks’ reported price according to the Daily Mail – the Toffees can’t go wrong.

On paper, the move suits both the player and the club. Now, it’s just about waiting to see whether any deal comes to fruition.
