Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge is convinced that Tottenham Hotspur will be monitoring Christian Eriksen’s situation with a view to making a move.

Eriksen was sold by Spurs to Inter back in 2020 when current Tottenham manager Antonio Conte was in charge at the San Siro.

However, after signing a six-month Brentford contract expire, a reunion could be on the cards, with Sky Sports reporting back in February that Conte was open to the idea.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Sunday that the Bees have offered the Dane ‘serious’ personal terms, but that the player is weighing up his options with a raft of clubs interested – and his decision will be made ‘in the coming days’.

The Mirror pitched Manchester United and Everton as two parties vying for his services as they look for that creative spark, but Football Insider is expecting Spurs to challenge, and Bridge feels the 30-year-old could take up his previous position.

Do you think Eriksen is a good option for Spurs?

He told GiveMeSport: “I still don’t think Spurs have ever replaced him, he’s such a good footballer. He spent seven years at Tottenham, he wanted this fresh challenge and I know fans weren’t happy with how it finished.

“He went to Conte’s Inter and it didn’t start well for him, but then he became a key player, so I’m sure Spurs will be sniffing around.”

TIF Thoughts on Eriksen to Spurs…

Starting with a current Tottenham star. How many PL goals has Harry Kane scored for Spurs?

Bridge’s theory that the north London club have failed to replace the Denmark international perhaps holds true.

Before a low-key campaign in 2019/20 immediately before his exit, where he produced just three goals and three assists, Eriksen provided almost double the number of assists than anyone else in the side with 17, while Son Heung-min contributed with nine during the 2018/19 season when Spurs reached the Champions League final.

Harry Kane and Son both matched that tally during the 2020/21 campaign while producing 10 assists each last term, but there has been a lack of creativity in midfield which perhaps hasn’t been helped by the tweak in formation to five in defence since the 114-time Denmark international departed.

The man dubbed a “superstar” by transfer insider Graeme Bailey has contributed to 123 goals in 236 Premier League appearances and his showings in a Brentford shirt in the second half of last season demonstrated that the quality remains and that Spurs would be wise to sound out a potential move.
