According to journalist Jacque Talbot, Newcastle United have opened preliminary talks with former Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford star Christian Eriksen for a possible move to the club this summer.

Since the Magppeis were taken over by their new powerhouse owners, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), they have impressed in the transfer window, picking up star players like Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Tripper in the 2022 January window.

It looks like they are going to continue this good form with reports of Reims striker Hugo Ekitike and Lille defender Sven Botman heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park. However, their latest link surrounds someone Premier League fans will know better in Eriksen, with Talbot revealing while the player is talking to several clubs, the two have started talks on a possible transfer.

He told GiveMeSport, “They have met. I was told they met on Monday – some preliminary talks – but I think he’s been sort of meeting at various clubs, to be honest, so it doesn’t really count for much. He’s sort of been talking to a number of clubs.”

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

TIF Thoughts on Eriksen to Newcastle…

Newcastle have done well to enter themselves into the race for Eriksen, who impressed during his short stint with Brentford last season, where he bagged himself one goal and four assists in just 11 appearances in the Premier League.

He also averaged two shots per game, 2.7 key passes, 0.7 dribbles, 1.2 tackles, three crosses, and 5.5 long balls per game with 80.9% passing accuracy on 49.5 average passes per game. According to Fbref, he ranked in the 99th percentile for shot-creating actions with 5.08 per game as well as for assists and non-penalty expected goals and assists for the Bees last season.

The Dane has also been linked with a move to Premier League giants of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur and also a possible return to Brentford. So if the Magpies are going to secure the signature of the 30-year-old, they are going to have to fight off stiff competition from sides that can offer him European football next season.
