Joe Thomlinson has claimed on the Football Daily YouTube channel that it could be time for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks to leave the club.
It has been an interesting career thus far for Winks having come through the ranks at Tottenham he’s managed to rack up 203 appearances for the North London side, but over the last two seasons, he’s seen his time on the pitch decrease and not managed to kick on.
Antonio Conte clearly doesn’t rate Winks, starting him just eight times in the league and then brought in Rodrigo Bentancur on deadline day, someone who operates in a very similar position to Winks, which has led to reports suggesting other clubs are interested in the midfielder’s services this summer.
Thomlinson feels like now would be the best time for everyone involved if Winks departed.
(8:15) “Harry Winks is up next then and he’s a definite seller for me, look, it’s time for both parties to go in their separate directions and I don’t think he works in Antonio Conte’s side and I think it’s been a bit stagnant for him at Tottenham for quite some time now.
Should Spurs sell Winks?
If you get anything above £10 million, I think it’s pretty much a win-win. I’ve seen £20 million touted with some Premier League clubs like Fulham.”
TIF Thoughts on Winks’ future…
It appears that Conte is very much fixed on playing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur in the middle of the pitch with youngster Oliver Skipp a frequent figure in the Tottenham side before injury this season, so Winks would appear to be fourth choice at best.
Now 26-years old, Winks, who was called a ‘very, very good’ player by Robbie Keane, will have to decide if he wishes to better his career and start to get some regular minutes in the league, something that he hasn’t done for several seasons now, or give it one last chance to impress Conte and then reassess his option during the January transfer window.
