Journalist Tom Barclay has claimed that Hull City winger Keane Lewis-Potter fits the mould of a Southampton signing.

Lewis-Potter came through the Hull youth academy and featured 45 times in the Championship this season, whilst scoring an impressive 12 goals and registering four assists, predominantly from the left-wing position.

There have been reports that the 21-year-old is on the radar of Southampton ahead of the summer transfer window, but the Saints may face competition from fellow Premier League sides such as West Ham United and Brentford, who are also interested in his signature.

With Southampton reportedly being interested in signing Lewis-Potter, Barclay claimed to GiveMeSport that he fits the mould of a Saints signing.

Barclay said: “He’s a player who seems to be really highly rated. I can’t claim to have watched too much of him, because the only time I would have had a chance was with [England] Under-21s, but he didn’t get that much game time.

“But people seem to talk about him being a really good player, and he definitely fits the mould of a Southampton signing, if they can afford him.”

TIF Thoughts on Barclay’s comments…

Lewis-Potter has been a standout performer for Hull this season in the Championship. He was the club’s top scorer with 12 goals, created the most big chances (7) and had the second-most successful dribbles per game (1.3), as per SofaScore.

Despite Lewis-Potter’s contract not being set to expire until 2023, he may be inclined to leave the club for Southampton in the summer, especially if they can offer him regular game time in the top flight.

Southampton had a poor end to the season and finished 15th in the Premier League table, so they may be looking to bring some new talent through the door in the summer, and Lewis-Potter could be a good option for Ralph Hasenhuttl, especially as he has proven that he can score goals in the Championship at such a young age.
