Journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed that Southampton will probably be looking at Gavin Bazunu ahead of the summer transfer window.

Bazunu spent this season on loan from Premier League outfit Manchester City with Portsmouth in League One, and he has been the No 1 goalkeeper in their side after featuring in 44 out of 46 games in the league.

There have been recent reports stating Southampton are keen on bringing Bazunu to St Mary’s ahead of next season, though he is one of the many goalkeepers on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s shortlist ahead of the upcoming transfer window as the Saints look to strengthen their squad.

The Saints have had previous when it comes to raiding the big clubs for their young players on loan as last season, they managed to gain the services of Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea, and the Albanian went on to make 32 appearances in the league.

With Southampton supposedly interested in Bazunu, Taylor has claimed to GiveMeSport that he is someone Manchester City are looking to loan out.

He said: “City are looking to move Bazunu out on loan, ideally to a Premier League club.

“He is highly rated and I know that’s one Southampton will probably look at.”

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…

Southampton had a difficult end to the season as they failed to win any of their last six Premier League games and finished 15th in the table, just five points clear of the relegation zone.

With their poor form, it is likely that Hasenhuttl will be keen to get some new faces through the door at St Mary’s, and Bazunu could be a good place to start, especially with only two sides conceding more than their 67 this last campaign.

Alex McCarthy was the main goalkeeper in the first half of the season, but he picked up an injury which meant Fraser Forster was given a chance, and even after McCarthy’s return to fitness, Forster kept his place in the side. But with recent reports stating that Forster could be leaving the club, Hasenhuttl might be on the hunt for a new No 1.
