Transfer insider Dean Jones has shared that Southampton are interested in signing midfielder Harry Winks this summer.

Saints transfer chief Martin Semmens has said that the club intend to swoop early for their targets in this window, one of whom is said to be the Spurs outcast (as per the Daily Mail).

In the final 13 Premier League games of the season, the 26-year-old played just 65 minutes under Antonio Conte, and it appears that Ralph Hasenhuttl is offering the 10-cap England international a route out of north London.

Recent reports suggest that would it take £25m for the Lilywhites to part with the player, and although there will be obstacles to overcome, Jones is keen to see whether the south coast club can come to an agreement with Spurs.

He told GiveMeSport: “There’ll be some negotiating to do on that one; there’s no doubt about it. But there is interest from Southampton, so let’s see if they can find a way to do business.”

TIF Thoughts on Winks to Southampton…

Labelled a ‘fabulous player’ by former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson, the midfield maestro certainly isn’t short of admirers, with ex-Leeds striker Noel Whelan saying Hasenhuttl’s style of play would suit the former England international ‘down to the ground’ after he was linked with a move to the club last summer.

In what position did Southampton finish in these seasons? Starting off with 2020/21

His passing success rate of 88.2% (WhoScored) placed among the best of Tottenham’s players in that regard and would have him first in that aspect among the Saints’ team, albeit it was obtained within fewer appearances.

Nonetheless, having been called ‘reliable’ by Conte himself despite the lack of game time, Winks would certainly be a valuable addition at St Mary’s and it will be exciting to see whether the club follow through on their interest.
