Southampton could be interested in bringing in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to St. Mary’s in this summer’s transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Saints suffered a turbulent season under Ralph Hasenhuttl this past Premier League season as they finished 15th, only five points off the relation zone after sitting as high as 10th earlier in the season. As a result of the poor season, the Saints brass are now looking to bolster the squad in the summer transfer window.

One of the players who is now rumoured to make a switch to the south England side is one of their former players in Oxlade-Chamberlain. According to O’Rourke, while the former England international has suffered a number of injuries which ash derailed his Liverpool career, there is still a top player three that Southampton could be interested in.

He told GiveMeSport, “His time at Anfield has been interrupted by injuries at key points when it looked like he was establishing himself in Jurgen Klopp’s side. But he’s still a top player.

“Maybe teams like Southampton, his old club, might be interested in him, and I’m sure there might even be interest from abroad as well because he’s still got a good CV.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Southampton will need to bolster their midfield numbers this summer, especially as it has been reported Tottenham Hotspur would love to bring in their star man James Ward-Prowse in the summer.

While the Liverpool midfielder, who has been described as ‘spectacular’ by Jurgen Klopp, has struggled with appearances this season, only making 17 in the Premier League, he showed glimpses of what he can still offer with two goals and one assist while averaging 1.5 shots, 1.4 dribbles. 0.6 key passes, 1.1 tackles, and two long balls power game with 83% passing accuracy. The Saints should be able to get a good deal on the man who cost Liverpool £35m back when they signed him from Arsenal given that his contract runs out in June 2023. It still remains to be seen what he can bring to Hasenhuttl’s side, but if the right deal is there, they could very well take a chance.
