Dean Jones has dropped an insight into West Ham’s upcoming summer business while speaking on The Done Deal Show.
The Hammers will be finally looking to bolster their squad this transfer window after failing to do so in January and look to try and consolidate themselves as a genuine top-six contender going forward, despite the emergence of Aston Villa and Newcastle United as serious players in the transfer market given the formers business and the latters’ wealth.
It has been reported that, despite the transfer window not officially being open yet, West Ham are edging closer to two deals already in the form of bringing in Alphonse Areola on a permanent basis as well as Ligue 1 ace Nayef Aguerd, who may not be the last singing to arrive from that league, according to Jones.
The transfer insider believes that West ham will be looking to tap into the Ligue 1 transfer market this summer.

He said: “There is more to life than the Premier League. There are better signings to be had than just in the Premier League, and there are other clubs that explore that more frequently. You see clubs like Wolves tap into the Portuguese market regularly and they have success with players that come through.
“West Ham this summer, you’ll see them going into the French market because they see that that is the place to be shopping right now.”

While Jones does make the point that there’s more than just the Premier League market for people to look at, as West Ham are proving with their first two signings potentially from Ligue 1, the Hammers still aren’t ignoring the domestic market with an approach for Jesse Lingard reportedly having been made.
West Ham have had mixed success when it comes to buying from outside of England with the likes of Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal proving to be inspired signings, however, the likes of Sebastien Haller and Felipe Anderson high profile moves that didn’t work out, so the Hammers scouting team will have to ensure that any arrival will be able to cut it in England.
