Despite a few other Premier League clubs getting some business done early on, the Magpies have not managed to bring in any new players as yet. However, a big piece of business has been done in the form of confirming Dan Ashworth as the club’s new sporting director.
This will see Ashworth begin work on Tyneside with immediate effect and start to lay the foundations for what could be an exciting future for the Magpies in every department, but something fans likely care the most about is transfers.
While Jacobs was unsure whether there are solid links to Bissouma, he believes it is not impossible that Ashworth could engineer a move for the Brighton & Hove Albion ace to follow him to Tyneside, and thus become the third man from the Seagulls to relocate up north this year.
He said: “We know already that Aston Villa have had a rejected bid, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to now say, ‘well, Dan Ashworth has gone to Newcastle and Bissouma had a record-breaking season for Brighton, so could Newcastle come into the mix now that they’ve got a new director of football?’
Would you like Newcastle to sign Bissouma?
“That is clearly not an unthinkable logic.”
TIF Thoughts on Bissouma to Newcastle…
Bissouma has been linked with moves to the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur in the past, but with the lure of knowing Ashworth and former teammate Dan Burn, settling in could be a lot easier, so he may well be tempted.
The midfielder appears destined to leave Brighton this summer with just one year left on his current contract, so any deal would not likely require a huge fee to get him out of the Amex Stadium. If he were to move to Tyneside, it would also add great depth and competition to a midfield that already includes the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Joe Willock, who cost a combined total of £105m.
