Journalist Graeme Bailey has given Nottingham Forest fans renewed hope in their bid to land Djed Spence with his latest comments on the Talking Transfers podcast.
The 21-year-old Middlesbrough prospect spent last season on loan at the City Ground starring in Steve Cooper’s playoff-winning side scoring three goals and providing five assists in 50 appearances from right-back.
However, when reports from The Telegraph emerged claiming that Tottenham Hotspur were set to rival Forest for his signature, the newly-promoted side’s chances were thrown into serious doubt.
Indeed, transfer guru David Ornstein even said on The Athletic Football Podcast (23:05) a fortnight ago that the player’s preference was a move to north London although he did stress that no agreement had been struck.
Now, 90min football insider Bailey has revealed that Spurs are considering walking away from a transfer and that could leave the door open for the east Midlanders.
Do you expect Spence to sign for Forest?
Yes
No
(51:14)”Tottenham are threatening to pull out of this deal. They’re threatening to back away. If they do back away I think you will see Nottingham Forest coming back in for him.
“Forest are willing to pay £15m for him.”
TIF Thoughts on Spence and Forest…
While the returning Premier League outfit broke their club record transfer to sign striker Taiwo Awoniyi for £17.5m last week, bringing back one of their most influential players from last season would be a tremendous piece of business.
Hailed by Arsenal great Ian Wright for his ‘swashbuckling’ performance in the defeat of the Gunners in the FA Cup last season, Spence has emerged as one for the future and earned an international call-up to the U21s back in March further highlighting his development as a player and he could be of great use to Cooper should they win the race to land him.
