Ben Jacobs has dropped a worrying claim on Allan Saint-Maximin’s Newcastle United future while speaking on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel.

There has been some talk around the future of Saint-Maximin at Newcastle United since the arrival of Eddie Howe and after a poor second half of the season that saw the Frenchman register just one goal and two assists from January 1st.

Some reports have suggested that Saint-Maximin will cost any potential club well over £40 million, which doesn’t appear to have put off Tottenham Hotspur who are said to be keen on the winger and could offer him Champions League football immediately.

Jacobs believes that speaking to people close to Saint-Maximin, he’s had his head turned this summer.

Will Newcastle sell Saint-Maximin?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

(50:45) “Sources tell me, close to the player that his head has been turned by this interest. It’s not impossible that he could leave, but nothing is imminent.”

TIF Thoughts on Saint-Maximin’s future…

While Saint-Maximin can be extremely frustrating, which is highlighted by the big drop-off in the number of successful dribbles, compared to ones attempted and his clear lack of willingness to defend winning just six tackles last season, his loss would be massive.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

However, Saint-Maximin is now 25 years old and doesn’t appear to be anywhere near the French national team, whereas someone who’s been linked with a move to Tyneside, Moussa Diaby, is 22 and already been capped by Didier Deschamps, so cashing in on Saint-Maximin to afford the signing of Diaby could be a smart piece of business by everyone involved.
