Journalist Lee Davey has urged Newcastle United to make a move for Seko Fofana while speaking on the Loaded Mag YouTube channel.

If it wasn’t for the emergence of £40m striker-turned-midfielder Joelinton, Eddie Howe and Newcastle could well have been prioritising a new addition to play alongside Bruno Guimaraes, however, the club-record signing has potentially saved the club a small fortune.

However, that hasn’t stopped the Magpies from being linked with moves for centre-midfielders – specifically from Ligue 1 – with Lucas Paqueta and Fofana seeing their names tipped for a switch to Tyneside and become part of PIF’s project.

Davey, who covers Ligue 1, has urged PIF to take a punt on Fofana this summer, saying: “He’s got everything to his game. He’s really kind of come on leaps and bounds, certainly the last couple of years since Lens were promoted back to Ligue 1.

Who would you rather Newcastle signed?

“If he’s at Lens at the end of the transfer window, I’d be massively surprised. Somebody needs to take a punt on him.

“He would be a fantastic addition to Newcastle United, a huge addition if Newcastle can get hold of him.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle going for Fofana…

At the moment, it appears that Newcastle are focusing on signing a striker, winger and left-back, with the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Moussa Diaby and Renan Lodi all being linked with a move to Tyneside this summer as Eddie Howe looks to shape the squad into his own.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

However, Fofana did enjoy a standout season this term with 10 goals and two assists, and with just two years remaining on his contract, there could well be a deal to be had for Newcastle and PIF, and The Athletic has reported that the club are going to be flexible this summer and take up any deal if it suits them.
