Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has revealed that Newcastle are struggling to offload their “fringe players”.

The Daily Mail have previously revealed that the Magpies will have a transfer budget of between £60-80m this summer despite their £305m takeover from the Saudi Arabia-based Public Investment Fund back in October.

Newcastle were Europe’s biggest spenders back in January as Eddie Howe recruited shrewdly and led the side to safety firstly and they finished with a flourish in 11th.

Journalist Liam Kennedy has made it clear that United will need at least three or four more signings to catch up with the European contenders and that may prove difficult given Bridge’s latest comments, as he appeared on The Transfer Show.

Will Newcastle still sign Ekitike?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

He said: “Their problem what I’m hearing is selling players. They are offering the fringe players and no one wants them because they know they want to get rid of them.”

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Matt Targett was confirmed to have signed a permanent deal for around £15m during the week having spent the second half of last season on loan in the northeast but it seems as if the club will need to offload some of their unwanted squad members before they recruit further.

Issac Hayden will spend next season on loan at Norwich having played just four times under Howe at St. James’ Park since his appointment back in November.

Matt Ritchie, Jamal Lewis, Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez and Dwight Gayle were all used seven times or less by the English coach meaning they are likely to be in the shop window as Howe looks to trim the fat around his 24-man panel.
