Sean Casey has claimed on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel that Newcastle United may ‘walk away’ from a deal for Dean Henderson.
It had been reported by the Manchester Evening News that a deal for Henderson to make the switch up north to Newcastle was close to completion, however, weeks on from that claim, the ‘keeper is still firmly a Red Devils player.
Luke Edwards has been reporting in The Telegraph recently that the Magpies are now no longer looking to sign him, given how expensive and difficult a deal has become to conclude with Man United – something Casey concurs with.
Casey has claimed that PIF will walk away from the Henderson deal because of how difficult Man United have been in these negotiations.
He said: “It’ll be a case of brinksmanship, Newcastle might walk away from the deal. They know Man United’s budget is low at the moment and they need money.
Will not signing Henderson be a mistake?

“There’ll be a couple of deals that they walk away from and go back to – they walked away from Botman and [Diego] Carlos and then went back for them in the last three days of the transfer window.
“They are under absolutely no pressure to bring Henderson in at the moment; the pressure is on the Manchester United side to get money for him. So we walk away from this and there’ll be new links to other goalkeepers.”
TIF Thoughts on the Henderson situation…
While Henderson could potentially be the goalkeeper on Tyneside for many years to come, having already become an England international, with the Red Devils reportedly wanting to receive £40m for him, it’s no surprise that PIF could be set to walk away from negotations.
The fact that Henderson was only handed three appearances all of the most recent season certainly doesn’t justify a £40m price tag, while Martin Dubravka managing to keep four clean sheets in his last eight appearances would suggest that he will once again be trusted to start between the sticks for Newcastle next season.
