It has been claimed that Newcastle United will pull out of a deal for Sven Botman due to his ever-increasing price tag.
It seems as though the Magpies are caught in the midst of a battle for his signature with Milan, having seen a bid of £32m rejected for the centre-back last January (via Daily Mail).
However, according to noted insider ExWHUemployee, Newcastle are ‘potentially’ going to give up on the deal as the price Lille want for the player keeps rising.
Speaking on The Transfer Show podcast, he explained: “Sven Botman from Lille, he’s left-sided, six foot five, centre-back; very good, apparently – 22-year-old Dutchman.
“He was linked with Newcastle and it seems like every time Newcastle tried to get a bid accepted by Lille, they upped the price. The price was going up and up and up.
“So it looks like Newcastle are potentially going to pull out of that move.”
TIF Thoughts on Newcastle United and Sven Botman…
With Milan currently understood to be keen on Botman and with Newcastle’s wealth known to all, Lille may well be happy to keep refusing bids in an attempt to get the highest fee possible for their player.
Should NUFC give up on trying to sign Sven Botman?
And considering his contract does not run out until 2025, this seems like a pretty smart thing to do – especially so early on in the summer transfer window with plenty of time left to negotiate.
Despite his young age, Botman has already won Ligue 1 as well as the French Super Cup (via Transfermarkt). And so, he is evidently a very exciting player. Regardless of that, it looks as though the Magpies may well have run out of patience regarding a deal.
